  13. The enclosed AV Serial Enhancement file is a system extension that should be
  14. installed in the System Folder of your startup disk.
  15.  
  16. INSTALLATION
  17.  
  18. Follow these steps to install the extension.
  19.  
  20. 1. Locate the System Folder of your startup disk. (Do not open the System
  21. Folder.)
  22.  
  23. 2. Drag the file AV Serial Enhancement to the icon of the System Folder.
  24.  
  25. 3. When a message appears, click OK to install the file in the Extensions
  26. folder.
  27.  
  28. 4. Restart the computer.

  31. USE AND DUPLICATION
  32.  
  33. This extension enhances the functionality of your Macintosh Quadra 840AV,
  34. Macintosh Quadra 660AV, or Macintosh Centris 660AV.  Specifically, the
  35. extension corrects certain reported problems.  These include (a) difficulties
  36. when printing with the LaserWriter Select™ 310 printer; (b) a possible system
  37. error when both the serial port and an AppleTalk® network connection are being
  38. used heavily; and (c) a possible system crash when simultaneously receiving a
  39. fax and transferring files over a network.
  40.  
  41. This extension is tested and sanctioned by Apple Computer, Inc., who provide
  42. this software without charge to all affected Apple customers. This software is
  43. provided on an AS-IS basis and may be redistributed without charge, so long as
  44. said redistribution is not for profit and contains this entire update package:
  45. AV Serial Enhancement (system extension) and AV Serial Enhancement Read Me
  46. (this file).

  48. Should a new release of system software for the Macintosh Quadra 840AV,
  49. Macintosh Quadra 660AV, and Macintosh Centris 660AV include the enhancements
  50. provided by this extension, the computer will continue to function properly.
  51. When you start up the computer with a new release of system software, however,
  52. you’ll see a message advising you that the extension AV Serial Enhancement is
  53. obsolete and should be removed from the Extensions folder, which is inside the
  54. System Folder.  (You can continue to use the computer without removing the
  55. extension file if you wish.)
